Nubaru Su : Human(a) Frontiers A Colony 58
From one of the earliest of Human(a) colonists who settled on ‘New world frontiers - Settlement 58 A military trained protector who is part of a force designed to ensure the settlement is safe from predators.
That includes others, seeking to rob, seize assets and or even colonists to traffick and enslave. Does NOT involve, or get involved, re the management of the settlement; OR the ‘politics’.
At the Akademy? A gift from the family, who she saved, from being gassed.
A power unit had burned out, releasing toxic gases.
After a routine partrol, she had stopped, in the cool night air, taken a deep sniff and realised to her horror, what was happening. This smell, was something she would not forget!
She had, encountered it before, when an explosion, had taken out a building, ejected debris almost killing her! Thus she knew, she had to go in and check to see IF, there were that family there? By doing so of course, not only would they be at risk IF the dammed thing blew up but?
She did know, had discovered from her previous encounter, that you COULD limit the explosive risk, by throwing salo (salt) on the gear? They had a small barrel of that, lying next, to the front wall.
The risk, of going in and dragging them out, also put her in great danger IF the dammed thing blew up! BUT she could NOT leave them! Thus grabbing a container left next to the salo she moved in and found the smoking device.
Throwing the salo over it, it hissed a plume of blue haze that died back AND it would appear the threat was neutralised? Now to wake the famiy.
Some distance away, and one of the elder Kets was getting some abuse from its parentia. Power units were to be turned off AND removed OUTSIDE!
Nubaru did not, need any reward, for saving their lives. She was doing her duty on patrol. Well actually NO. Headed to her own domicile, having completed her duties. Now how could they reward her? She was still protesting.
Icti the parentia, was not having any of it. She had saved them. That idiot of his, who had been lazy! Was due to go to the Akademy. HE had just lost that privilege to her.
A heated argument broke out. Suddenly there was an almighty explosion. Rocking the far side of their building. NOT the one that she / they had been in, but an out building? Uhh the son vanished...
A plasma disruptor unit, which had been left unattended? Raits, yes those dammed raits chew anything ! That lazy oik, had again neglected, to see it protected, against them, in a secure container?
Oodi was his sister. She shook her head. “He should not be going to the Akademy. He had already told his friends that it will be like going on holiday for two years! “ She was holding on to Nubaru’s hand her tiny hand squeezing hers whilst whispering.
“Thank you for saving our lives. I love my Mama and Papa so much, even my dumb brother. YET he because of his usual laziness ? He, will never learn, until he too, has to lose something, dear to him.”
Icti, would not, take no for an answer. Everything was paid for, the colony chiefs, allocated her a stipend, to cover her for anything else. They had always, been proud of her AND her parents were hard workers, resourceful, reliable and, well liked, amongst the others.
The elders owed Icti a lot. They would not offend him by refusing his request to let her go. Two years for her to be at the Akademy he had emphasized would be something for all to be proud of.
On her return, experience, knowledge and she was certainly one of the cleverest amongst them unlike his lazy oik of a ! She was known for her horticultural skills. From her parents.
Her interests and studies would be to learn about new crops, genetics and to learn about, to operate, equipment they could use to improve their colony. Weather systems as this planet had some that needed an understanding of such. Someone who could future wise come up with some solutions?
It was known, amongst her parentia that she had a natural aptitude, for what she would now be spending time on. BUT they had been unable, to do what they had so desired. Naburu had accepted that and, did NOT, resent her parentia for not being afford to send her there.
Onica, had some peculiar weather systems. Nuburu was about to discover, that understanding them, would see her future wise, being able to help the colony survive.
Golli G, was pleased to have her within the group. Good basic skills and the knowledge she did have from her Patentia was not to be ignored.
Her cooking skills were also though not essential really good. In the outback on trials, she could find food, cook it and! make sure the group did NOT starve!
