The car had refused to start ! not that it was OLD or lacked maintenance, well OK maybe not as regularly as it could have been, the real problem as I was to discover thanks to the breakdown geezer, was due to the BATTERY.
“You, haven’t used this for a while then love ?” Maybe, it was the grubby look, the leaves, all over it that, had settled, along the bottom of the windscreen, let alone other places ?
The creak of the bonnet opening being propped open and that typical serious male looking at your car pose you can almost hear them thinking “Blimey where do I start ?” but Charlie yep, that was his name, glances at it grins attaches the portable booster pack he has with him.
Slips, into the drivers seat, turns the key and hey presto, my Charlie can perform miracles.. as it roars into life ! He smiles lets the engine run to ‘warm it up love ‘ then disconnects the leads to the booster pack shuts the bonnet and still grinning gets me to sign his sheet.
THANKFULLY I hadn’t let, my membership to the breakdown org lapse, even if I hadn’t used the car for 6 months ! I tell him he looks at me looks at the motor shakes his head mutters ‘what a waste !’ Turns and saunters off.
OK trip to your local battery centre battery replaced and, everything is good, specially after the car has a good scrub in the local car wash ! Gleaming and not. the only thing looking good. as I pick my things up from home and shove them, on the back seat of the car.
ME? I’ve made an effort LOOKING GOOD ! feeling good !
Scotland here I come ! its going to be a long trip from London, but everything is booked and I can chill out in comfort. Got my Cd’s sorted and I’m stopping overnight the other side of Lincoln and just south of Glasgow, before I arrive at my holiday cottage, in the wilds near Loch Lomond ! gotta giggle ! Nessie ?? !!
