Besai turned, she glared at him, somewhat astonished at his outburst! What Iofnen had said, amounted to a challenge directed at Besai. “Can’t do that!” Hissed Ameryst “It’s not allowed.” Heliera interrupted the conversation.
“Under the rules of the charter, ‘Ei qua ie’ is not allowed.“ IN simple terms, failure means the loser forfeits their life. They went quiet as Besai turned looked back at them to glare in their direction. Before she turned back to Iofnen. Her response, loud and clear to his challenge.
“I accept.“ “Tell her will you, she can’t accept, there is no challenge. Its illegal.” Prince Iophan was now stood next to Besai and Iofnen. What had Margise told him about the issue that Besai had? Over finding a partner. It would seem, she had! He looked at them both.“
“To the death or the prize?” Iofnen looked at him, then back at Besai. Prince Iophan moves his lips staring at Iofnen hoping that though he can't hear him he will lip read what he is saying, she should reply! “Prize!“ Besai smiled. He asked her the same question.
He breathed a sigh of relief, her answer was the same. “Prize.“ “Then the challenge is allowed." Ameryst interrupted them. " It says clearly, in the charter. To the death with any challenge, is not permitted within the Akademy, for whatever reason."
"The definition of Prize is NOT to the death!” “Explain?” Mumbles Delise. “The term refers to the winner owning the other for life.“ “Oh.“ Mutters Delise, as she mulls it over to add rather loudly and somewhat shocked. “UH?”
It would be later, that Becci was talking to Heliera. “Iofnen? I never thought he had it in him.“ Heliera grinned as Hoki appeared, they talked. “Besai is good, Besai will win.“ Maewena came in minus Meladi and Besai. “Besai win? I don’t think so.” “Come on, something you know that we don’t?” She told them what had happened previously. “But Iofnen challenged her.“
“OK, so it surprised Besai, but I know overhearing her and Meladi before I left them just now. Once it was all explained? She’s delighted. I think it was what Aldrei said that did it.” “What?” “Aldrei said the Emperor has only one, as his partner, his Empress. No other partners. It’s not allowed by their religion! Iofnen can’t own her, as his slave, its forbidden.
She would be an Empirical Princess.“ “Ooh.“ Squealed Heliera. “But surely Iofnen must have..” “Fallen for her? I think so.“ “So what happens if he loses.”
“Won’t. Cos if Besai loses, she becomes his Empress, which given his position, her father is hardly likely to feel enraged about. She, becomes a VERY rich Empirical, not a number.“
“When’s the challenge?" "In two days time, but at the temple chosen by them. Only one other Ket, may attend each of them and of course, the chosen Priestess present, to witness the validity and the legality of the win?”
“That’ll cost them! How’s Besai gonna pay for that? Don’t see her father paying the temple fee’s.“ “Iofnen is paying it all, says it was his challenge, so he pays the fee."
A lot of the temples charge fees, but also accept tokens or gifts. Across the Galaxies are worlds where religion plays a huge part in ceremonies and traditions to those where it has little or no bearing. OR where it has been outlawed.
You don’t have to be, from a certain race or belief to seek out the counseling from a Priest or Priestess. Well in most of the religions that is. Advice is always given where appropriate and, sometimes help if required.
Meditation and relaxation techniques, are taught in classes, that the Kets can attend voluntarily BUT they can be instructed to attend via a x43de22 notice issued by those at the Akademy who have the authority to enforce discipline.
Anger management, as we might know it? Is just one aspect. Some of them, are extremely therapeutic and results can be surprising, when the therapy works on Kets, who have not experienced it before, with calming results.
Often much better it was discovered, than using medications or drug treatments.
Religion itself is NOT compulsory for the Kets to learn about, but all help and information is widely available on the different ones and Kets are, encouraged to know a little about other Kets beliefs. Especially if they become friends.
Certain religions may have rights to have Kets released from their day to day training at certain times of the seasons, for ceremonies, fasting and religious festivals.
Kets can, with religious festivals, invite and involve other Kets in their celebrations or have them as an audience.
Tolerance is paramount and intolerance is, in some instances, punished. You can’t force a Ket because of his religious beliefs to eat certain foods or drink certain drinks.
Nor force them to be involved in activities that are forbidden, under or within the rules of their religion.
